2nd melan kitwurm hatched on site oh, the amount of time i spent trying to convince meri to not randomly gift you to me out of the kindness of eir own heart <3 and then guess what i see in my trades. i literally cannot IMAGINE how hard it was for ganz to hunt you. i don't WANT to imagine it, seeing as how just trying to hunt an albino and shiny kitwurm just... executed me. ascalapha odorata, the black witch moth. in nahuatl, the black witch moth is called "miquipapalotl" (literally "death moth"). in spanish, they're called "mariposa de la muerte" (literally "death butterfly"). in jamaica, the black witch moth represents a lost soul, or a soul not at rest. in hawaii, the black witch moth might represent death, but it represents the soul of a loved one coming to say goodbye. something similarly happy is in the bahamas, where supposedly if a black witch moth lands on you, you'll find wealth. i should mention that in nahuatl religion, the obsidian butterfly, itzpapalotl, was a goddess of infant mortality. though, "black butterfly" was often used to mean "bat". but still! miqui's got some goddess origins! originally, in the novel "the silence of the lambs", black witch moth pupae were placed in the victim's mouths. however in the movie adaptation they were replaced with death's head hawk moths.
